Credit Repair The importance of maintaining good credit

June 11th, 2011 by admin

To numerous people, maintaining a decent credit rating is crucial to obtaining housing, insurance, employment, along with other necessities.  Unfortunately, the prevailing economic conditions have wreaked so much instability in the labor market that even responsible consumers have been pushed into overwhelming debts.  It is in these circumstances that people become victimized by disreputable organizations that provide to magically clear-up their credit histories.  In their bid to regain their economic independence, they end up losing more time and money.

How, then, is one able to separate legitimate credit improvement organizations and credit repair scams?  The answer to answering this question is to look at the provisions of Title IV of the Consumer Credit Protection Act, higher quality as the Credit Repair Organizations Act.  According for this law, credit improvement organizations are prohibited from charging upfront fees prior to the completing any decided credit improvement service.  These organizations will also be necessary to inform their prospective clients of the rights and also the steps they can undertake their own to fix their credit histories.

One important right that consumers have may be the to know the contents of the reports issued by credit rating agencies concerning them.  As these reports become the bases for decisions on their loan requests, they need to ensure that all of the reported information are accurate and true.

There are three major consumer reporting companies in the usa: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.  All of them are required legally to supply consumers with a free copy of the credit file once every 12 months upon the concerned consumer’s request.

In occasions when consumers do find inaccuracies within their credit reports, they have the right to dispute the info and also the consumer reporting companies are obligated by law to research the dispute within Thirty days.  It is important to consider note though that the only stuff that could be cleared up from one’s credit report are inaccurate information.  No individual or credit improvement organization has the capability to legally eradicate any accurate negative information from a credit history, and also to claim otherwise is just plain deception.

In conclusion, consumers have to exercise caution when availing the services of credit improvement organizations.  If ever they opt to do so, they need to check what their rights are, and also the obligations of these organizations under the law.

The process to delete bad credit can be time consuming. If you are working within a certain time frame and need a faster process, options are available. Is Credit Repair a honest business?

What legal majors can you take when these companys SCAM you out of your money? Like Waterfield credit did me!!1

Answer
There are a few legal things they can do. They can help you get rid of items on your report that are false, out of date, and/or that are about someone else (eg somebody with the same name located elsewhere). But, you really could do this yourself. Some of them try to play hardball with collection agencies and demand they provide prove that the debit is valid, on the hope that the original records have been lost (I guess it could have happened in the past but now records are cheap to keep forever as computer images). But all in all, if the debits are valid and your credit report is true there really is not much they can do but take your money.

Credit Repair Companies Can Help

June 11th, 2011 by admin

Some people turn to credit repair companies when they find themselves unable to solve their credit problems themselves. In fact, the credit repair industry has boomed with financial and economic crisis causing people to be in debt and face unemployment.

In facing debt you have two options: You can fix it yourself or seek professional help. Trying to work on your own means contacting all creditors, negotiating and paperwork – this can be burdensome and you’ll need a lot of effort and patience to make it through. If you choose to ask for assistance, you have to pay a fee for their services.

Credit repair companies then can make things simpler for you. But the industry has been facing a lot of negative feedback due to credit repair scams that take advantage of people who turn to them for help. Aside from that, many people think that they will only be paying high fees for these services.

Truth is, there are many repair companies that have gained repute for helping a lot of people with credit troubles and many of those companies charge little fees since they obtain their income from the creditors.

But remember that the bad reputation of the industry did not come from nowhere. It is a fact that there are numerous debt repair scams scattered all over the internet. If you are considering a credit repair company, always make sure that you make a thorough background check and ask people who have used their services for testimonies.

Credit repair service can help you do negotiations if you are not able to make your payment on time. If you are facing debt that is long overdue, they can find ways to reduce the debt to an amount that you can handle. Some are also well equipped to handle problems from foreclosures to identity theft.

Dealing with credit problems can be very stressful. It is best to hire a company where one person will be in charge of your account instead of a company where you talk to different people every time you check in. It’s very important for a credit repair executive to get to know you so that he or she can easily understand your situation and would know what he needs to make the negotiations with your creditors run smoothly.

Lastly, keep in mind that while a credit repair company can help you a lot, that does not mean you are free of any responsibility. The company can not do everything for you. For instance, they do not have the right to get your credit report – that is something you have to do yourself. They also cannot perform miracles by erasing correct information that is in your file. They also cannot delete all of your outstanding debts and your bad marks on your profile. You will still have to pay your debts but at le

Does anyone know of a legitimate long term loan lender for bad credit?

I have made some mistakes with my credit and want to clean things up. I want a loan to pay off everything and have just one payment so that I can repair my credit. The problem I’m running into is that someone claims to be a legitimate lender and need money to transfer the funds or to send them western union and it turns out to be a scam.

Answer
I honestly would not ask this question online. Go to your bank and tell them your situation. If they refuse you credit (which they may due to your bad credit), lay it on the line for them. Tell them you need to do this and you need them to give you a few recommendations.

They may not have any for you…but then again, they may. It’s worth a shot.

If they really can’t help you, ask friends and family who they have *already used* and *already have experience with*.

But if you ask online, you run the risk of simply getting a lot of scammers who are trying to entice you to click on their sites so they can obtain and sell your information, or so that you can “bump them up” in a silly pyramid scheme that never really seems to make anybody rich in the end, etc., etc.

If you really do want to look online for a creditor, be very, very, very careful. Do not click on ANY links that seem at all suspicious and do not believe ANY “testimonials”…get facts, get them in writing, get them ahead of time and never, ever give your personal information out over the internet. Go to see the lender and sit down with him or her (if the lender is legitimate, there will be an actual building, with actual employees).

Good luck.

Credit Repair Understand How it Works

June 11th, 2011 by admin

Considering the fact that personal debt is at an all-time high, a number of people have found that they have overstressed themselves and have become immersed in bad credit. As their debt grows, they can’t help but get more and more behind. and their credit score pays the price. If you are one of the many who is having problems with your credit, you may be considering credit repair as a way to get back on track. It is important to note Before you sign up for a repair plan, that make sure that you understand exactly what is involved in repairing your credit score. while there are a lot of such agencies that are legitimate, there are also some that seek to defraud those who need help and perform services that are both immoral and illegal.

Understand What Credit Repair Is

The goal of credit repair is to improve your credit score and get you back on track financially after past credit problems. A variety of repair services exist, providing everything from credit counseling and debt negotiation to debt consolidation loans and budgeting advice. When used properly, credit repair services can not only help you to get caught up with your bills and on the path to a better credit score but they can help you to avoid bankruptcy and set you up to avoid credit problems in the future.

Quick fix and Credit repair are just not the same, the latter takes time and if done properly yield a long lasting result. If an offer claims that they can instantly grant you new credit, then it’s likely not only bogus but can also get you into legal trouble if you accept it.

Types of Credit Repair

As stated above, it can take several different forms. Credit counseling services provide assistance with the budgeting and repayment of your debts, and offer advice on simple ways to improve your credit without additional loans. They also often provide debt negotiation, which is the working out of

a settlement with your creditors so that you only have to repay a portion of your original debt within a certain timeframe. Debt consolidation loans are also used for the purposes of the repair, allowing you to take out a loan in order to pay off outstanding debts and leaving you with a single monthly loan payment instead of several different payments. Budgeting assistance services are also available to help you get control of your spending and personal finances.

How To Avoid Credit Repair Scams

There will always be unsavory individuals who seek to make money off of those who are in need of assistance. Any such service that promises instant results or that offers to simply create a new credit report for you should be avoided. what they’re really creating is a business tax identification number, and any individual who uses one is in danger of being charged with fraud and possibly other charges. Credit repair takes time; if an offer sounds too good to be true, then it likely is. For instance, an offer that promises two days, one week credit repair must be carefully checked.

You Can Repair Your Credit

Of course, by paying off old debts and establishing and maintaining new lines of credit you can begin the process of credit repair yourself. Request a copy of your credit report and check it for errors, and then focus on clearing the debts that appear as negative reports. It may take some time for all of the negative reports to expire, but by preventing new ones while increasing your positive reports your credit score will slowly improve on its own.

You may freel

How does “credit repair” work ?

Ive seen the ads for years and assumed that they were just semi-scams that repeatedly request for things to be removed over & over until someone forgets to verify it and then they get removed.

Well, I had a tax lien for past due taxes filed withOUT notifying me like they are supposed to.

It hurt my score by about 88 points because of the tax lien.

The lien has now been released as I have got up to date on my taxes and they are sending a refund.

Should I just repeatedly tell them its false to hopefully get them to remove it ?

Those firms apparently guarantee results.

Im not going to pay anyone because in all likely hood, I will never borrow again in my life. (Other than credit card bills that are paid in full every month)

But, I used to take pride in my 769 score. Now its 681 and its just average and I hate it.

Warning Signs of a Credit Repair Fraud

June 11th, 2011 by admin

The last thing someone with a poor credit score needs is to have to deal with yet another financial setback which is just one reason why credit repair scammers are such a cancer in the credit world. They promise the world to people who are desperate for a better credit score and at the least, leave them lighter in the pocketbook with nothing to show for it. And at worse, they can lower people’s credit score, get them sued by creditors, or even get them in legal trouble.

Credit repair scammers also have the effect of damaging the reputation of the entire industry causing consumers, companies, and officials to doubt even the best credit repair companies, many of which have been in business for a decade or more and combined have helped millions of people legally repair their credit scores. And perhaps this is the worst thing about credit repair scams, they keep people who could genuinely benefit from credit repair services from giving it a try. For every person who does get taken by a credit repair scam, there are probably dozens more who have avoided seeking help because of the fear of being taken.

But this does not have to be the case. There are signs you can look for to detect a credit repair scam and by knowing what to look out for, you can find a company you can trust.

Here are four warning signs of a credit repair scam:

Get a New Credit Report – This gets pitched as the ultimate way to get rid of bad credit. Instead of trying to clean up your existing credit reports, these scammers claim to be able to help you get a brand new credit report. And while they may be able to do so by tricking the credit bureaus to generate a new report using a fake Social Security number, having that new credit report will not solve your credit problems. Not only will you still have poor credit (no credit does not equal good credit), but if you attempt to use your new credit report to get a loan or other line of credit, you are breaking the law. You could end up with the same poor credit score plus a criminal record.

Large Upfront Payment – Thieves want to get your money and get away. They’ll break your car window, grab the stereo and run. They’ll come through your back door, head straight for the jewelry and get out of the house before anyone is the wiser. Credit repair scammers can be the same way. They’ll take all the money upfront, often times many hundreds or thousands of dollars, and while they may pretend for a while to be doing something to help you, they already have what they want and are merely covering their tracks. Any company that requires you to pay hundreds of dollars before they will do anything for you should be avoided.

No Credit Repair Contract – You have a right to know what a company is going to do for you, how much it will cost, and when you will be expected to pay. You also have a right to know all the fine print surrounding any guarantees and to know exactly what the cancellation procedure is. And because of this, the Credit Repair Organizations Act requires that companies provide you with a written contract that must be signed before any work can begin. Simply put, if a company does not have a contract, they should not have your business.

Only Accept Cash or Money Orders – What better way to get away with a con than to make sure you get all your profits in cash? There’s no paper trail and no method for charge backs. Once you have the money, it is up to the other person to prove not only that you acquired it fraudulently, but they also have to prove exactly how much you have taken. And for a few hundred dollars, most of the time, it simply isn’t worth the work which is a perfect situation for a scammer. These days, unless you are the neighborhood lawnmower, just about every legitimate company accepts credit. Be very skeptical of any credit repair company that does not.

What are some good credit cards for credit repair that AREN’T scams?

I’ve never had a credit card (although my credit sucks) and heard they’re a great way to repair credit. Any tips?

Answer
First all, if you’re trying to repair your credit, the APR shouldn’t matter because if you’re really committed you will pay off all bills in full every month!

Try the credit cards offered by your bank first. Banks have a soft-spot for their customers and that can be a positive factor in their credit approval.

Next, look at cards offered by Chase, CapitalOne or Citibank. These are reputable company.

Orchard Bank should never be a choice if you’re building credit. In my opinion, their lending practices border on predatory. Fees are outrageous, and they are not very good at disclosing hidden ones.

If your credit is as bad as your say, be prepared.
You may be denied.
You may be offered a secured credit card.
You may be offered a credit card with a higher rate.

If you’re denied for credit, don’t keep trying. Wait for at least 6 months before you try again. When you apply for a credit card, the lender will get your credit report. The more you apply for credit, the lower your score can get and less like you are to be approved for credit.

Vicious cycle, right?

If the credit card has a high APR, consider accepting the card. The high APR will only affect you if you carry a balance at the end of each statement cycle. BUT pay off everything when the bill comes.

If you do this, you won’t see your credit improve right away. It may takes anywhere from 1-7 years to repair your credit.

If you were offered a secured credit card, think twice. Lenders don’t just look at your credit score or whether you have a good repayment history. They also look at the type of credit lines you have.

The Credit Repair Organizations Act

June 11th, 2011 by admin

By law, credit repair organizations must give you a copy of the ‘Consumer Credit File Rights Under State and Federal Law’ before you sign a contract. They also must give you a written contract that spells out your rights and obligations. Read these documents before you sign anything. The law contains specific protections for you. For example, a credit repair company cannot:
– make false claims about their services
– charge you until they have completed the promised services
– perform any services until they have your signature on a written contract and have completed a three-day waiting period. During this time, you can cancel the contract without paying any fees

Your contract must specify:
– the payment terms for services, including their total cost
– a detailed description of the services to be performed
– how long it will take to achieve the results
– any guarantees they offer
– the company’s name and business address

Have You Been Victimized?

Many states have laws regulating credit repair companies. State law enforcement officials may be helpful if you’ve lost money to credit repair scams.

If you’ve had a problem with a credit repair company, don’t be embarrassed to report it.
While you may fear that contacting the government will only make your problems worse, remember that laws are in place to protect you. Contact your local consumer affairs office or your state Attorney General (AGs). Many AGs have toll-free consumer hotlines.

Check the Blue Pages of your telephone directory for the phone number for a list of state Attorneys General.

Need Help? Don’t Despair

Just because you have a poor credit report doesn’t mean you won’t be able to get credit. Creditors set their own credit-granting standards and not all of them look at your credit history the same way. Some may look only at more recent years to evaluate you for credit, and they may grant credit if your bill-paying history has improved. It may be worthwhile to contact creditors informally to discuss their credit standards.

If you’re not disciplined enough to create a workable budget and stick to it, work out a repayment plan with your creditors, or keep track of mounting bills, consider contacting a credit counseling organization. Many credit counseling organizations are nonprofit and work with you to solve your financial problems. But not all are reputable. For example, just because an organization says it is a ‘nonprofit,’ there’s no guarantee that its services are free, affordable, or even legitimate. In fact, some credit counseling organizations charge high fees, or hide their fees by pressuring consumers to make ‘voluntary’ contributions that only cause more debt.

Most credit counselors offer services through local offices, the Internet, or on the telephone. If possible, find an organization that offers in-person counseling. Many universities, military bases, credit unions, housing authorities, and branches of the U.S. Cooperative Extension Service operate nonprofit credit counseling programs. Your financial institution, local consumer protection agency, and friends and family also may be good sources of information and referrals.

If you are considering filing for bankruptcy, you should know about one major change to the bankruptcy laws: As of October 17, 2005, you must get credit counseling from a government-approved organization within six months before you file for bankruptcy relief. You can find a state-by-state list of government-approved organizations at the website of the U.S. Trustee Program, the organization within the U.S. Department of Justice that supervises bankruptcy cases and trustees.

Reputable credit counseling organizations can advise you on managing your money and debts, help you develop a budget, and offer free educational materials and workshops. Their counselors are certified and trained in the areas of consumer credit, money and debt management, and budgeting. Counselors discuss your entire financial situation with you, and help you develop a personalized plan to solve your money problems. An initial counseling session typically lasts an hour, with an offer of follow-up sessions.

The Laws That Make Credit Repair Possible

June 4th, 2011 by admin

Fortunately for you, decades ago Congress recognized that the credit reporting system needed an overhaul. The practices of the credit bureaus and the creditors using the credit reports they provided were abhorrent. American consumers were being taken advantage of by a system they had no way of influencing and no way of keeping in check.

To counter this, Congress enacted the Fair Credit Reporting Act which with its subsequent revisions has become the keystone for constructing your credit rights. It is because of the Fair Credit Reporting Act that you have the right to see what is being reported on your credit reports and to dispute the negative items they contain.

Along with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, there are a few other consumer protection laws that give consumers certain rights when it comes to working with the creditors and collections agencies who report to the credit bureaus. By taking advantage of their rights under each of these statutes, consumers have been able to successfully repair their credit.

Fair Credit Reporting Act

The Fair Credit Reporting Act is what got credit repair started. Because of this act, you have the right to see your credit reports and to dispute bad credit directly with the credit bureaus.

Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

Along with protecting your against abusive behavior from collectors such as contacting you at unusual hours, screaming at you, using profanity, misrepresenting their identity, or using violence in an effort to collect a debt, the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act gives you powerful debt validation tools that give you the right to challenge any debt.

Fair Credit Billing Act

Similar to how the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act governs collections agencies, the Fair Credit Billing Act give you the right to dispute negative credit directly with your original creditors in order to change the way they are reporting your account to the credit bureaus.

Credit Repair Organizations Act

With all the laws surrounding credit repair, it can be overwhelming for a newcomer to try repairing their credit. Fortunately, there are legal credit repair companies who help consumers work towards a fair and accurate credit score. These credit repair companies are regulated by the Credit Repair Organizations Act which helps prevent consumers from becoming a victim of a credit repair scam.

You have certain rights regarding your credit reports including the right to legally repair your credit by disputing the negative items in your credit reports. You can work to repair your credit on your own or with the help of a reputable credit repair company.

Also, many of them are considered scams, etc. So, I would like to know if anyone has personally experienced help from one of these companies in credit repair.

Answer
These are the best around, they have a full team of attorneys http://www.gsx1.com/RestoreCredit.html
do not trust people who say you should do yourself, you risk messing it up when it is so simple to just let the professionals do it. Good luck, whatever you do.

How Can Consumer Credit Repair Help You

May 29th, 2011 by admin

Having to pay for unexpected expenses and making not so great financial decisions and taking on ill advised investments can result in having an overwhelming amount of debt. Not only that, you also miss out on your monthly payments which ultimately merits you with a credit score that is so low, you will start to feel like you will never be able to recover from all of your financial difficulties. If you think this mirrors the financial situation that you are in right now, then why not consider consumer credit repair? If you are not familiar with the term yet, consumer credit repair is what you call the process that allows you to effectively and actively repair your financial and credit standing instead of having to hire a third party to do the job for you. So long as you do it correctly, consumer credit repair is one of the most effective steps that you can take when it comes to restoring the credit standing you have damaged. What you need to understand though, especially if you are still thinking that it might be better to hire a third party to help you out is that there isn’t a thing that credit repair service providers can do for you that you can’t work out for yourself.

And in order for you to get started, you need to understand what you need to do. Basically, consumer credit repair involves contesting negative things that appear on your credit report, like charge-offs or in some case, collection accounts. Disputing these items on your credit report ultimately will have them removed on your credit history and this effectively improves your credit standing. Also, by choosing to fix your own credit standing, you get to save a lot of money since you won’t have a company sending you a bill for something you can easily do on your own; plus, you protect yourself from becoming a victim to the several credit repair scams that are all over the industry these days.

It is important to understand though that fixing your own credit will require you to have extensive knowledge of the federal laws pertaining to collection disputes, guideline on credit reporting as well as any probable legal ramifications. Also, you have to understand that consumer credit repair cannot be done quickly. As a matter of fact, a lot of consumers do not see the improvements on their credit score until three to six months after they have filed their disputes and have taken steps to repair their credit. In any case, it is best that you focus on studying your credit score and how the items mentioned earlier have affected your credit and what you can do to improve your standing.

Credit Repair Avoiding Scams

May 26th, 2011 by admin

The Credit Repair Professional

The credit repair business requires a clear grasp of the interaction of many factors. Credit bureaus, creditors, and collectors are each regulated under their own set of federal laws. There are state laws that may supercede the federal laws. In the background of all of this activity is Fair Isaac and Company that formulates your FICO Score based on the makeup of the information on your report. Credit repair professionals must have a working knowledge of all of these factors and more.

And the Not-So-Professional

True credit repair professionals provide an incredibly valuable service. But there are also those that misrepresent themselves and the services they offer. These deceptive practices will waste your money, and in some cases leave you worse off than ever. Here is our list of the top offences…

Authorized User Alert

Some so-called credit repair companies have been brokering ‘authorized user’ status on credit card accounts. This involves making the customer an authorized user on someone else’s credit card to boost the customers FICO score. This is not illegal, but you should be aware that Fair Isaac and Company, in response to this practice, has eliminated authorized user benefits from the new FICO scoring model. According to Fair Isaac, one of the three credit bureaus will begin using the new scoring model in September 2007. The other two credit bureaus will adopt the new model by mid-2008.

The New Identity Trap

There is a busy little credit repair sub-culture that offers to help you establish a new identity by applying for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) which they suggest that you use in place of your Social Security Number. This amazes us! And it is a serious crime that could put you in prison. Steer clear.

Promises Promises

Watch out for companies that guarantee results such as a specific increase in your credit scores in a specific period of time. Professional, reputable credit repair companies can produce dramatic results! But given the fact that there is no way to predict the responsiveness of the credit bureaus, creditors, or collectors it is inappropriate to make such promises, and a sure sign of bad business.

The One-Dimensional Credit Repair Problem

Beware of credit repair companies that offer credit bureau disputes, and nothing more. They are most likely using software that simply pumps out dispute letters – repeatedly. This one dimensional approach to credit repair is certain to produce disappointment. Effective credit repair requires the skill to challenge the bureaus, creditors, and collectors alike; all with the knowledge and understanding of the legislation that governs them, and a grasp of how each change in your report can affect your FICO scores.

Power Corrupts

I’m going to stray a bit from the category of credit repair scams and touch on two of the more egregious offenders in the credit reporting industry. Many people mistake size for honesty. Power can corrupt, and the journey to the dark side is often led by corporate attorneys who constantly test the limits of consumer’s tolerance. Credit repair can be tricky enough, but getting hoodwinked by the credit bureaus can be downright discouraging. Here are offenders that we encounter on a daily basis.

False Credit

Every day untold numbers of consumers go to TransUnion’s ‘True Credit’ website and pay for what they believe to be their credit scores. What they get are deceptively named ‘TrueCredit’ scores which vary significantly from the FICO scores used by lenders. Here is the (almost impossible to find) small print from the TransUnion website. ‘TrueCredit is not connected in any way with Fair, Isaac and Company; the credit score provided here is not a so-called FICO score. The credit scores of TransUnion may not be identical in every respect to any consumer credit scores produced by any other company.’

Not Free Credit Report

Are you starting your credit repair effort? You can get all three of your credit reports for free, one time per year, from AnnualCreditReport.com. Don’t be fooled by Experian’s freecreditreport.com website! Here is the fine print: ‘When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don’t cancel your membership within the 30-day trial period, you will be billed $12.95 for each month that you continue your membership.’ And it may not be so easy to cancel. The Office of the Attorney General of Florida lists the following issues in their investigation of Experian: ‘Deceptive advertising, misleading domain name, and failure to honor cancellations in violation of Chapter 501, Part II, Florida Statutes (Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act).’

How can I fix my credit after being a victim of an online scam?

I saw an attractive offer to help someone to retrieve some money for them. Made a blinded decision to do it and now my bank account got closed. What should I do to repair my error/ credit and be able to start over again financially?

Answer
Please tell me that you didn’t fall for one of those over the seas scams where they tell you they have 24 million dollars in siezed money and if you help them retrieve it, you can take 25% of the U.S. transferred funds.
Now, why did your bank account get closed? How much do you owe? The best thing you could probably do is speak to your branch manager and tell him what happened. If the overseas scammer retrieved the funds from your account, then you could probably file a report for fraud. However, if you sent the money directly, then it was a decision you made on your own, and your problem to fix. The bank most likely won’t discount what you owe them if you give them the “I sent the money, found out it was a scam, and now I can’t pay you (the bank) back.”

You may want to file a fraud claim with the Attorney General’s office in your state.

If your bank has sent your closed account to collections, you will most likely receive a offer to compromise letter from the collection agency. If you get that, I would just pay it off and chuck this up to a lesson learned.

Never and I mean never, trust these over the seas scams. They bilk millions of dollars from people like you every year.
You can find proof of that on the U.S. Attorney General’s Office website under “fraudulent scams”.
