Credit Repair Companies More Than Credit Repair Tips

May 8th, 2011 by admin

Credit repair companies offer a lot more than credit repair tips if they really know how to operate a successful business. The most reputable organizations directly attack negative credit report items, and keep the consumer involved in the process with education and regular updates. Some credit repair companies even offer free eBooks to the general public, and also a variety of other services to their signed customers. Some of those services include helping a consumer find seasoned tradelines or other legitimate means of gaining positive credit.

A good credit fixing company doesn’t just send out form letters disputing the negative items. They formulate a battle plan, usually based on their years of experience and on-staff consumer attorneys. The business representatives also ensure their customer knows about the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the rights he or she has under that law.

Some credit repair companies also help write ‘goodwill letters’ to try to settle debts and late pays directly with the reporting lender. This is especially helpful when the late pays and charge-offs are legitimate and happened due to unavoidable life circumstances like sudden illness or job loss. Most of these services are available under the standard monthly fee charged by most companies, though some offer the ability to upgrade to a more expanded plan.

A good credit restoration company really can do a lot more than just give credit repair tips. They often have the experience, knowledge, and staff to not only improve a customer’s credit report, but also help their client learn from any mistakes and build a more financially sound future.

Final Tip: if you want to improve your credit scores and get a cleaned credit report, it is by researching and comparing the best credit repair services in the market, that you will determine the one that meets your specific financial situation, plus the free trial offers and cheaper prices offered thereafter. Nonetheless, it

Credit Repair Tips three Things to Look Out For When it Involves Credit Repair and Maintenance

May 5th, 2011 by admin

Contrary to what you will are led to believe, if you’ve got the right strategy and apprehend sure credit repair tips, repairing your credit rating could not be a very tough or lengthy process. You already grasp that your credit report is utilized by creditors to gauge their risk in lending you money. Creditors recognize that your financial state of affairs could amendment at any time thanks to numerous circumstances, and hence, the credit reports are updated frequently to mirror your current money reality. If you do realize yourself stuck with a dangerous credit rating, here are some credit repair tips that might be of use to you in back your rating back within the black:

1. Get False Knowledge Off Your Records 1st
After you get your credit report, bear it very carefully. Typically, false data – some money advance you didn’t take, money you didn’t borrow, etc. – may have crept onto your report. Without getting into the ‘why,’ you wish to eliminate these first. To repair such errors, merely write to the credit bureau listing the error, how it caused you problems (difficulties in obtaining loans, etc.), and any relevant account numbers (as well as your social security number). The credit bureau may balk at initial, but if you persist they will have to get such false data off your report.

2. Pay Your Bills
This may sound obvious, but a late bill payment can look extremely unhealthy on your credit report. A no bill payment, on the opposite hand, appearance even worse. Rather than not paying the bill in any respect, think about paying it late, or if potential, in installments.
Usually, creditors will be willing to negotiate your debt with you. In several cases, the debt can be negotiated to nearly 60% of the amount owed. However, when creditors do negotiate with a debtor, they attach an expiry date to the offer. So unless you can pay the renegotiated debt quickly, don’t bother with haggling with creditors. Relying on your individual situation, debt settlement may be an choice to noticeably take into account, but it can place a black mark on your credit report.

3. Get Stale-Dated Things Removed
Though the credit bureau and creditors can usually remove dangerous entries off your credit report automatically when the law requires it, it helps to make a phone decision or write a letter to the creditor, asking them to remove any paid off debt from the report. Credit bureaus, banks, etc. are monolithic organizations and things can typically get lost during a bureaucratic maze. If you’re serious about credit repair, a phone call or letter will prod them in the correct direction. The preference is, of course, letters since they provide an audit trail that can be used to ratchet up the pressure if nothing happens.

Credit repair is not not possible nor will it have to be terribly time consuming. The time needed will depend on the number and complexity of the issues, who the creditors are, etc. The most effective method to go is to stay things easy by keeping payment current, paying off your bills once you can, and negotiating your debt (where attainable)if you’re in an exceedingly scenario where you just cannot afford to keep current. You can have a spanking clean credit report by using these straightforward proven credit repair tips.

5 Credit Repair Tips

May 2nd, 2011 by admin

If you have a low credit score it is costing you money and will have an adverse effect on many areas of your life. You really can repair your credit status and you you should consider making it a priority. There are some simple measures you can take to begin with. Here are five tips to start your own process of credit repair.

Tip Number 1 – Always Pay Your Bills on Time

One of the best ways to improve your credit score is simply to pay your bills on time. Experts think that up to 35% of your credit score is based on your paying of bills on time. This is not always an easy thing to do, but it is something to strive for because even a few late payments
can cause credit agencies to take notice.

Tip Number 2 – Avoid Excessive Credit

Borrow money only when you need it and make sure to make payments on your debts on time.
Taking out lots of new credit accounts in a relatively short period of time will cause your credit score to nosedive. It will look as though you are being financially irresponsible.

Tip Number 3 – Pay Down Your Debts

Paying down your debts to a minimum will help to elevate your credit score. Start with the largest debt you have and start paying it down so that you are losing less of your available credit total. Try to use no more than 50% of the credit available to you. But – don’t pay off the entire amount on a credit card – believe it or not it is good to leave a small amount there to help your credit score. After all, lenders make money on the interest you pay.

So keep at least a small amount outstanding on the account.

Tip Number 4 – Have A Range of Credit Types

Lenders like to see that you are able to handle a range of different credit types well. Having some form of personal credit such as credit cards – and/or some larger types of credit such as a mortgage or auto loan – and paying them off regularly is better than having only on type of credit.

Tip Number 5 – Develop An Action Plan

You need to know where most of your credit score is coming from, and you will need this information -

your credit history
your current debts
the types of credit you have
how long you have had bad credit

Start to create a personal plan by examining each of these areas in turn. To do this you will need to get hold of your credit report. You need to know what is in it so that you can start to fix it. Find out what lenders already know about you by getting your report from one of the three main credit agencies.

Carefully read and review your credit report looking for errors or any outdated information. Alternatively you can contact one of the law firms or agencies that specialize in credit repair to do this task for you. This course of action is not recommended for individuals however, as the charges can be high and the period of time to repair even simple problems can be quite long and drawn out.

If you find it daunting to read through, understand and act on the information in your credit report and can’t afford an attorney to do it for you, consider using credit repair software to do most of the work for you.

Three Easy Ways To Use My Credit Repair Tips And Save Thousands

April 29th, 2011 by admin

My credit repair tips are simple yet they provide ways to help you repair your credit without having to give up your lifestyle!

Before I offer you my credit repair information though, I must tell you that not knowing your current debt situation, this solution may not work for everyone. I’m not a professional credit counsellor or financial advisor, so by saying this, I wish that you take my tips as a stepping stone, however, please make sure you research and get all the facts before attempting any of my ideas.

I highly recommend that you contact your local credit bureau, and have them provide you a history of your credit reports. By contacting Equifax, which is one of the report bureaus that will have your information, they will give you a good understanding where you stand if you know you have credit problems.

Depending on how good or bad your credit reports indicate will be the stepping stone to your debt recovery process. Now I will provide you more information on how to repair your credit score another time, because this article is more for the person searching to reduce their credit debt. I will provide you ways to maintain your current lifestyle without having to give up the things you WANT, and that word is the key to controlling your debt!

Purchase What You Need, And Negotiate The Things You Want!

When you understand the major difference between needing and wanting something, you will be on your way to a debt-free life. The reason so many Americans, and people worldwide, are in such financial debt is because they purchase too many items that they want, and not enough of what they need. Combine the two and you have a financial tornado that never stops spinning.

I consider items that fall under the ‘need’ category such as food, shelter, and clothing. You may come up with a different list, but the important message here is that you have to understand which are the basic necessities that you can’t live without before you can improve your credit.

A good example is purchasing a vehicle, which seems to be a large contributor for many that get into financial trouble quickly. You have to look at this purchase and ask yourself if you really NEED a vehicle. Many of you will probably say yes, because having to admit that a car or truck for most of you is a want and not a need, and to answer this question, you simply have to realize whether it really supports your transportation goals.

Go back and ask the question in the terms of ‘Transportation Needs’. Do you really need a vehicle to get from point A to point B, or do you only want a car or truck for the convenience it provides you? Compare the monthly lease or finance payments, maintenance, and gas expenses versus bus transportation, and using a taxicab service for emergency and last minute situations. Do the math and see which solution will save you money each month, and focus on achieving that goal to savings.

It’s a loaded question and solution, but if you answered truthfully and realistically, it can save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars each year! You will have more equity in your pocket for all the other things that you need, and when you control your personal expenses, the savings turn into equity that you can reward yourself with from time to time.

If you still don’t agree with me on the transportation example, that’s ok, because I only wanted to use that as an example of how our minds have a hard time differentiating the need and want concept. I’m going to offer you tips that you may not have exercised in the past, and these simple tips could easily save you money.

Many of you might be borderline in debt, and are slowly increasing your chance of becoming a creditors nightmare, however, even though you may be aware of your financial situation, you just can’t stop the shopping itch for all the latest trendy items that you don’t need, but want.

Follow My Repair Tip Strategies, And You Don’t Have To Compromise Your Lifestyle

Each credit repair tip that I offer you is in no way guaranteed, and I highly recommend that you do all the research possible to make it work for you. Not understanding the consequences will only get you deeper into debt, and that’s not my intention.

Many items that you buy that fall under the want category, which normally have what I call an ‘enjoyment cycle’. What I mean by this is that when you make the purchase, how long does it take for you to lose the enjoyment of that item, and how long does it take for it to finally end up in the back of your closet or the corner of your garage. Let’s say on average it takes only one month for the appeal of the item wears off, and if you agree with me, I can offer you some great tips that can work where you can actually enjoy the trendy items, but save tons of money in the process.

These tips will take a bit of research and networking, but if you have the motivation to repair your debt and enjoy your favorite products at the same time, this will be worth the effort:

Tip #1:  Research as many of your popular shopping venues that offer 30 day no question return policies, or have a deferral program that allows you to test the products with no financial obligation. Keep in mind that you must make sure that you know exactly what their policies allow, so you don’t get stuck with the product you may not want to keep.

Having a period of time to try the items at no cost to you is an advantage to you, and prior to the 30 days or longer is completed, ask yourself the important question; do you need it, or did you only want it because of all the hype it gave you? This is your opportunity to see if it is something you will use for a long time, or will be another dust collector. If you send it back, you get a credit back on your card, and voila, you gave yourself an opportunity to get the want feeling out of your system, and really find out if you needed it or not!

Tip #2:   There are so many retail and online stores that offer monthly specials such as a ‘Two For One Deal’! With your savvy and creative mind, compile a list of all your favorite shops that provide these monthly specials of your desired items, and find out on average how many of your closest friends and family members purchase from these shops. You can provide a shopping service for them as a convenience; tell them that you expect nothing in return other than the second item that is offered for free.

This tip is a little more work, but once you establish your services, they will become invaluable and rewarding for you and your recipients. First, start with your friends and family, because they will be understanding with your current financial situation and will support you on your venture. From there you can let the word of mouth expand your service, and who knows, you may develop this service into a little business that may turn your life around in a positive direction.

Tip #3:  If you have friends, family members, or associates that don’t own a credit card, but want to experience the savings of many items offered online, or discounts that are only given to certain credit card purchases, let these people know that you can help them save money by using your card.

This is very  ‘IMPORTANT’  to remember! Do not under any circumstances use your card without receiving payment up-front. You will get further into financial trouble if you don’t establish rules in your service, and always ask for payment prior to any charges.

If done properly, you will be able to accumulate a great number of points for free items, and in the process you will be helping many of your recipients get their favorite items at a reduced cost, plus any perks that go with using a credit card online or in their select retail store.

These are just a couple of tips that I can offer that may be a solution to helping you pay down your credit debt, while taking advantage of all the free services to test and enjoy items at no cost to you. Do your homework, and when you implement these programs successfully, you will achieve in enjoying your want items, and use your extra equity to pay down your bills.

However, if you feel that you’re beyond credit repair on your own and you need to find repair information from professional sources, I recommend that you read my article on ‘Credit Repair Companies’, by clicking on the link in my Author Bio below, and see if they can provide you necessary strategies and repair steps to get you back on track.

Where to Find Credit Repair Tips Letters and Other Information

April 26th, 2011 by admin

Advice about credit repair, free letter samples and advice from experts can be found in many places. The public library may not be a very exciting place to visit, but when you are looking for free information, it is a good place to start. Some of the books may be outdated, at least as far as the newest laws are concerned, but credit repair tips, letters to write and other credit repair advice has not changed much in the last ten years.

It seems that more and more people are interested in improving their credit scores. This may mean that consumers are getting smarter or that more credit repair companies are advertising. Credit repair tips, letters to creditors, letters to the credit bureaus and other information about credit repair is being sold in kits and books everywhere. Finding free advice about credit repair, free letter samples and free credit repair tips may be a little harder than signing on to the internet, but it is possible.

The recent FACT act makes it easier for consumers to access free copies of their credit reports. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) publishes free credit repair tips, letters to use as examples when contacting the credit bureaus and other information. The FTC investigated one nationwide credit repair company in 2003, finding that hundreds of thousands of people had paid millions of dollars to try to improve their credit scores. It is easy to understand why people are interested in improving their credit scores. The people with the highest scores get the best interest rates. The people with the lowest scores are the targets of the most scams. Payday loans and other high interest, short term loans attract those people who cannot qualify for other less expensive methods of borrowing.

A credit repair free letter example usually goes something like this:

Dear Sir,

Please remove the following inaccurate information from my credit file:
(List inaccurate information here)
I have the following evidence to support my claim:
(List evidence here)
Please investigate and correct this matter as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Most credit repair tips, letters and suggestions for their use are very simple. The tone of the letters should be unemotional. It is recommended to include a copy of your credit report and copies (not originals) of any receipts or other evidence that you have to support your claim. Other than contacting the credit bureaus to remove inaccurate, outdated, misleading or unverifiable information from your credit report, you can also write to your creditors.

For this reason, credit repair free letter writing advice may include a sample letter to send to creditors. The information contained in this letter varies depending on an individual’s specific circumstances. Credit repair tips, letter writing suggestions and other information can be helpful, bu

tips on building good credit?

i opened up my 1st credit card when i was 18. the bank gave me a $1,000 limit and an intro 6 months 0% interest incentive. i purchased a laptop, and paid it off within the 6 months. 10 months after i opened up the credit card (it’s Visa, btw), the bank raised my limit to $1500. i use the card every now and then for little nicknacks. i owe about $200 on it, and plan to pay it off by May, April at the earliest.

I opened a 2nd credit card, a Capital One, about 1 year after I opened the Visa. After I pay off the Visa, I plan on using it for important purposes only, considering it has the higher limit (for example, if my car needs repairs that i cannot afford on the spot).

I am hoping, once I have both cards paid off, to pay off my car in 1.5 – 2 yrs, so i may start saving to buy a house of my own before I am 25. I am 20 now.

How do i keep my credit good so that when the time comes to settle into my own place, i will be off to a good start?
Also, I have never missed a payment. And I usually pay well over the minimum. I usually pay $75-100, on a $25 minimum

Answer
You are on the right track.

Keep using your cards occasionally to keep your credit usage active and never be over thirty days late.

Monitor your credit reports often so that you can fix any issues that may arise. I suggest you use a credit monitoring service as it makes it easy to track your reports and will automatically warn you if your credit is compromised. Most services cost about $10 per month.

Steady employment in the same line of work will also help you greatly when it comes time to qualifying for your house.

Good job for having a plan and being proactive about your credit, you are miles ahead of most people your age.

Credit Repair Tips and Solutions

April 23rd, 2011 by admin

There are many companies which sell credit repair tips and solutions. There are software programs, books, newsletters and a range of services directed at those who are in need of bad credit history repair. But, the best credit repair tips and solutions are the free ones, at least in the opinion of this writer.

Did you know that the three major credit bureaus, Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, are required to provide consumers with one free copy of their credit report every year? If not, you are not alone. Some people know that the reports are available, but do not know where or how to obtain copies. Companies which sell credit repair tips and solutions often sell information about where to obtain copies of your credit reports. They often advertise in such a way as to lure in consumers who are looking for bad credit history repair or just the free annual report that they are entitled to by law.

Visit http://www.annualcreditreport.com. Older books containing credit repair tips and solutions will not have this address. It was created by the three major credit bureaus in response to a recently enacted law, so anything that was written before 2005 will not have this information. If you are attempting bad credit history repair on your own, then you will want to visit this site first. There is no charge for these reports, but the credit bureaus are allowed to promote credit repair tips and solutions that they sell on this site. Just click no thanks on the offers until you get to a secure site where you can enter your personal information. Most credit repair tips and solutions offered by the credit bureaus will not help you achieve bad credit history repair.

Bad credit history repair can be a frustrating and time consuming process. In order to avoid a little frustration, have your personal information available when you visit the credit report site. In order to verify your identity, you will be asked certain questions about past or present accounts or previous addresses. And, make sure that you spell the website address correctly or you may end up at an impostor site. One impostor site sells credit repair tips and solutions and information about bad credit history repair, but does not provide you with your credit reports. Another impostor site calls their monthly newsletter ‘My Free Credit Report’. All of this is an attempt by businesses to confuse consumers, causing more frustration and lost time.

After you pass up all the offers, enter your personal information and finally get to view your credit reports, you may be surprised. There may be a lot of information on your credit report or just a little, depending on the types of credit that you have and the length of time that you have been using credit. You may be expecting to see a ‘credit score’. If so, you will be disappointed. The free credit reports provided by the credit bureaus do not include your FICO or any other relevant scores. They contain information that is used to calculate your credit scores. When you are trying to achieve bad credit history repair, you may run into a number of little disappointments and frustrations. Be prepared.

If you actually want to view your credit score, the number most commonly used by creditors is the FICO score. FICO also sells credit repair tips and solutions and they charge consumers to view their own credit score. They charge lenders and financial institutions as well, but it does seem that consumers should be able to see this information without being charged. Since that is not the case, be ready with a credit card. You can use a prepaid or a secured credit card if you do not have another type. If you do not qualify for a regular credit card, get a secured card. The FICO credit tips and solutions suggest that a secured credit card which is handled properly will help you repair bad credit history over time. This is not an immediate fix, but if you credit score is very low, then it is a good idea to build ‘good’ credit history as you attempt to repair ‘bad’ credit history.

There are too many credit repair tips and solutions to mention in this one article. This writer and the other writers at Credit Fix Solutions have compiled a large number of credit repair tips and solutions. We strive to provide

What are some good credit cards for credit repair that AREN’T scams?

I’ve never had a credit card (although my credit sucks) and heard they’re a great way to repair credit. Any tips?

Answer
First all, if you’re trying to repair your credit, the APR shouldn’t matter because if you’re really committed you will pay off all bills in full every month!

Try the credit cards offered by your bank first. Banks have a soft-spot for their customers and that can be a positive factor in their credit approval.

Next, look at cards offered by Chase, CapitalOne or Citibank. These are reputable company.

Orchard Bank should never be a choice if you’re building credit. In my opinion, their lending practices border on predatory. Fees are outrageous, and they are not very good at disclosing hidden ones.

If your credit is as bad as your say, be prepared.
You may be denied.
You may be offered a secured credit card.
You may be offered a credit card with a higher rate.

If you’re denied for credit, don’t keep trying. Wait for at least 6 months before you try again. When you apply for a credit card, the lender will get your credit report. The more you apply for credit, the lower your score can get and less like you are to be approved for credit.

Vicious cycle, right?

If the credit card has a high APR, consider accepting the card. The high APR will only affect you if you carry a balance at the end of each statement cycle. BUT pay off everything when the bill comes.

If you do this, you won’t see your credit improve right away. It may takes anywhere from 1-7 years to repair your credit.

If you were offered a secured credit card, think twice. Lenders don’t just look at your credit score or whether you have a good repayment history. They also look at the type of credit lines you have.

Fast Credit Repair Tips

April 20th, 2011 by admin

Many companies and programs are offering fast credit report tips, however they often come with a hefty price tag. There are many things the average consumer can do to make improvements without the help of a professional. If you have the time and a some organizational skills, and a do-it-yourself attitude, you can increase your credit score rather quickly. In some cases the results can be a couple days, but within 30 days significant improvements can be made.

The first step is to access a copy of your credit report and review it for errors. Seventy-five percent of credit reports include inaccurate information. One in four reports include errors that actually hurt you in a negative way, so pay particular attention to loans that you never took out, credit cards that should have been closed years ago, and late payments on accounts that you’ve always been on time for. If there is something as serious as a bankruptcy filing that does not belong to you, that is something that would take immediate priority, as you might be a victim of identity theft.

After you have reviewed your credit report there are two directions to go to implement fast credit repair strategies. The first is to figure out what is causing your credit score to be where it is and work on ways to change that. Once you determine the problem areas, then you can use fast credit repair tips to fix those areas. For example:
– Is your available credit to debt ratio high?
– Are there several indications of late payments?
– Is there a history of using credit?
– Have you been active with the accounts that are open?

The second thing to do is to dispute credit report errors that do exist on your credit report. By law, you are entitled to an accurate credit report, and the agency that supplies this documentation is required to respond to any concerns you bring up to them.

Because the credit agencies must be able to find conclusive evidence in order to support any negative information, it is entirely possible to have things you actually did removed from your report. For example, if there is a history of late payments on a credit card from 5 years ago, there’s a good chance that the credit card company may not have any proof of those late payments on file. Therefore, by law, the credit reporting agency must remove the negative information from your report. As a result your credit score will instantly improve.

CreditXpert score (through E-Loan)…how accurate?

I signed up with the CreditXpert score monitoring last year through E-loan.com. They send me my score each month, and give brief tips about what I can do to improve my score. It also shows brief excerpts from my report, about who is trying to collect.

I was curious about their scoring system, in which it claims they are not associated with FICO. The score they show sounds comparible to what my Exp, EQ, and TU scores should be…and they do seem to reflect accurate increases based on the positive measures I am taking to repair my credit….

However…I would like to know from anyone that has used their scoring system or services, how comparable their score is to the 3 major bureaus?

Answer
if they are not FICO.COM i would not trust them. if you are not receiving your credit reports from experian, transunion, or equifax then i would not trust them. alot of times people will give you score that are not 100% accurate.. and when you try to get a home loan and car loan and are denied or get a high interest rate you will be confused. dont let that happen to you.

Credit Repair Tip DIY

There are many places online that would love for you to sign up for some expensive program to improve your credit. In some cases and for some people this may be a great option. Just make sure that you carefully investigate all offers before signing up for them. You also need to realize that most credit repair can be done simply by you right at home for free, and that is the number one credit repair tip I can give you.

A lot of times people like to hire some credit counselor primarily because they are overwhelmed with everything and just want someone to take them by the hand and tell them what to do. It can seem easier to turn the reigns over to someone else than to have to deal with it all themselves. While totally understandable, it can also be expensive.

The first thing you need to do to take charge of your credit is to get a copy of all three of your credit reports (for those who didn’t realize, there are 3 major credit bureaus and they can all have different information on their reports so it’s wise to get a copy from all three: Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax).

When you get your reports scour them with a fine tooth comb to find any and all mistakes. You might be surprised at all the wrong information that is on your reports. If you find any mistakes contact the credit unions immediately, in writing, to have the mistakes corrected. They have 30 days to comply. Make sure that you send along any information that you have that will prove that the item is question is a mistake.

That one single thing can help many people increase their credit score by a dozen, or even, a hundred points in just one month. That is huge!

The next step is to pay your bills on time: each bill each month. If you find that you’ve gotten overextended and just don’t have enough money every month you can do one of three things: make more money, decrease your monthly bills, or talk to your creditors and see if they will lower your payments or interest rate so you can handle the bills.

In many cases they will agree to lower your interest rate, particularly now with so many people struggling in this bad economy. In the short term that will still leave a mark on your credit report but in the long run it may make it easier for you to get back on track and get things paid of more quickly.

If you just feel lost and want someone to act as your guide through the credit jungle, you can find a counselor to help you out. But for most people, all they need to do is take charge and make a commitment to do it. The number one credit repair tip is to start right now, whether you do it yourself of hire someone to help. The sooner you start, the sooner you’ll be able to get all the perks that come with having a great credit score.

Ex Wife Reopened Credit Card Account?

My dad and mom got divorced about 7 years ago. About one year or so after the divorce was final my mom reopened a discover card that use to be a joint account. The account had been previously closed and was re-opened without my fathers knowledge. Recently, my dad went to fianance a car and his usually near perfect credit showed 20,000 debt to discover. This was the account my mom had re-opened without his knowledge. He wants to repair his credit but we do not know what steps he needs to take seeing as how he didnt give discover permission to reopen this account. Their divorce was final way before she ask for it to be reopened. Please give me some tips that I can pass along to my dad. THanks

Answer
First of all, contact Discover (do this in writing to keep records, send it certified mail/return receipt) and explain situation to them. Prove his case to them and have them remove the derogatory entry from this credit reports immediatly. If you get no response from Discover then here is the next step.
You must know one thing the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act DOES NOT apply to major credit card banks? It applies only to the collection attorneys and professional debt collection companies they might hire. Original creditors are regulated by state law; however, the major credit card companies follow policies that closely mirror those of the FDCPA and will comply with your request to stop phoning you at home and work, etc., just as if you were dealing with a collection service. If you believe you have been harassed by an original creditor, or that the original creditor has done something illegal or threatening towards you, then research your state laws on the subject and contact the proper authorities to file a formal complaint. Typically, the Attorney General in your state is the proper authority to contact.

Here is some info on who to contact if Discover does not remove his name from the account. These are the people who oversee credit card companies.

Report the credit card issuer to the Comptroller of the Currency. Phone number is 202-874-4700.

Report the company to your state’s attorney general’s office. You can find links to your state’s AG website at naag.org. Your state might allow you to file a complaint online. This is probably the most effective complaint to make as it is the attorney general’s who have filed most of the lawsuits against credit card companies.

Report the company to the Better Business Bureau. Submit your case for dispute resolution online at www.bbb.org.

Report the company to banking regulators. Their mailing address is Division of Credit Practices, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission, Washington, D.C. 20580 or file a complaint online at www.ftc.gov.

And if she were my ex, I would pusue not only civil but also criminal charges as she has violated federal law.

Hope this answers your question

Credit repair tip

Yes, it is possible to improve your credit score and this is exactly what we set out to help you do with this credit repair tip article. It could happen to anybody: you check your credit score and find that it has slipped below desirable levels. It may be because of some issue that you know about or it may simply be a mistake. Whatever the reason, you need to fix it if you can. A poor credit rating can stack up problems for you in the future including difficulty getting a mortgage or higher interest rates charged on your cards and loans. So the first thing to do is to check for mistakes on your credit record. This could be anything from something appearing there that has nothing to do with you, to a payment that you made that has not showed up on the due date. Wherever you find a mistake, contact the company that recorded the matter to have them put it right. There are certain procedures that you can go through to do this and as long as you can prove that it was a mistake, you have the right to have it corrected. So do not lose sleep over this kind of thing but do not ignore it either. Act immediately because it will take a while to go through the system and you never know when you may need credit. If everything on your credit record is correct but your score is low, it may take a little longer to set right. Still, it can be done. First, remember that your credit score can increase if you have a loan or credit card and make all of the repayments on time. So if you have any financing where everything has always been up to date and it is not shown on your credit record, you could try to get it added. Next you will need to work on the debts that you have, so that repayments are manageable. This means working out a budget and perhaps asking for some debts to be refinanced over a longer period. For some people a consolidation loan is helpful. Whatever you do, try not to miss any more payments. It is way better to talk to all of the companies to arrange a different payment plan. If you are sticking to an agreed repayment schedule you have the best chance of improving your credit score in the least time. Watch out for companies that advertise credit repair services that may be a scam. Some of these companies are fine but others will charge a fee even if they cannot do anything for you. Be clear about what you are getting. Most times, if credit repair is possible you can do it yourself, but you may find it less stressful to hire somebody to do it for you, especially if you do not like writing letters and getting involved in a lot of paperwork. So use each credit repair tip one by one and begin your journey towards a permanently better credit rating.

Quick Credit Repair Tips That Really Work

April 11th, 2011 by admin

Dispute Freely

Credit repair requires courage. If you see something on your credit report that does not look familiar to you, you have the right to dispute it with the credit bureau. To hold back would be a great mistake. Do not attribute the credit bureaus with infallibility. The truth is far different. Errors abound.

And Dispute Again

Errors, generally, are not the fault of the credit bureaus, but the inevitable outcome of a complex reporting system involving countless reporting entities. Credit repair is the cure. And if your disputes encounter resistance, do not give up so easily. Dispute again. Demand satisfaction. You have the right to ask for errors to be investigated and corrected.

Validate Debt

Getting a collection letter in the mail is no fun, but it does offer a fantastic credit repair opportunity. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires collectors to provide documentation of their legal ownership of the subject debt as well as proof of the amount that they say you owe. This is called debt validation.

Do It Soon

Your debt validation credit repair opportunity only exists for the thirty days following your receipt of the collection letter, so you must act quickly. If the collector cannot provide the required documentation they must stop collecting and reporting. But an important caveat applies! If you have no doubts about the accuracy of the collection there is no point in validating the debt unless you are ready to negotiate payment.

Open New Accounts Now

This is a major credit repair opportunity which can provide a dramatic boost to your credit scores. If you have been through a difficult financial period, and your credit suffered as a result you can get enormous benefit from opening a couple of new credit card accounts now. As critical as this is for those who currently have no open accounts, it is equally valid for those who do have accounts which have survived the period of difficulty.

Get Secured Cards

The FICO credit scoring model needs open and active accounts to calculate a score, so if you do not have any open accounts it is essential that you open them now. But FICO also gives credit to those who have taken steps to rebuild after a period of hard times, so even if you still have open accounts you can benefit from opening one or two more. Concerned about being approved? Just get secured cards. They are easy and you will not get denied.

Keep Revolving Balances Down

Once you start rebuilding your credit there is one more credit repair tip that will insure that you get the best possible results from your hard work. Keep your balances down! The FICO scoring model puts enormous weight on the ratio of your revolving balances and your account limits. If you open a new account and then use the entire available balance do not be surprised to see your scores fall.

Avoid This Trap

There is a common credit repair trap that you want to be sure to avoid. Many people get small cards, use the full amount available each month, and then pay the balance when the bill arrives. It is unlikely that your payment date and the reporting cycle of the card issuer will coincide. It is more likely that your account will be reported with a higher interim balance, which is likely to harm your scores. For credit repair, and when you need your scores to be their best, limit your card usage to a small percentage of the card limit and do not exceed that number.
